Ann Hellstrom, professor of pediatric ophthalmology with a focus on growth factors, may be one of the year's biggest grants from VR. She get six million for its project to investigate potentially modifiable factors that contribute to morbidity in preterm infants, such as lack of nutrients and growth factors, disruption of metabolism and infections. Scientists in the project will also investigate interventions should be designed to promote normal growth and development.
- Discoveries and hypotheses that originate in the clinic tested in experimental studies, the results from these studies are identified and then tested in clinical trials. It would probably be able to call our approach to classical translational research, says Ann Hellström.
